Italian gold gilding techniques workshop, taught by Italian government-licensed art conservators.
This is a unique workshop in Singapore, where participants will explore the basic gold gilding techniques passed down through generations since the Byzantine (330-1453) dynasty.
Art Continuum is a conservation studio founded by Eunjin Nam,
a conservator with an expert license authorised by the Italian government.
Italy, a country of glamorous monuments and cultural heritage, has been renowned
for its art conservation and restoration techniques throughout history. Ironically,
these techniques were developed, thanks to the “Alluvione di Firenze del 4 Novembre 1966”
(1966 flood of the Arno), which sank millions of masterpieces of art and rare books.
Art Continuum is the only conservation centre in Southeast Asia with conservators who studied and trained in Italy. Its aim is not only to provide conservation and restoration services for artworks in various art mediums, such as canvases, paper, porcelain, gold gilding, and bronze that have been damaged or abandoned in Southeast Asia’s humid climate, but also to pass down this artisanal technique, a secret for over 1000 years, from the Byzantine dynasty to Singapore society.
